Blackthorn Cottage: Terms and Conditions
To make a reservation, we ask for a a deposit of 50% of the total, paid by sterling cheque, PayPal, or bank transfer. We would like the full balance eight weeks before you are due to arrive. If you are booking the cottage within eight weeks of the start date of your stay in the cottage then full payment will be due at the time of booking. If the balance is not received by the due date, we may treat the booking as cancelled, so please keep in touch with us in order to ensure that your holiday is secure. We require full payment for the cottage, therefore any bank charges that may be incurred when paying by bank transfer are your responsibility (these are not always charged and, when they are, are normally quite low).
We recommend that you take out holiday travel insurance, especially in the light of recent, and possibly ongoing, travel disruptions.
Cancellation
If you wish to cancel your booking, please let us know as soon as possible. Any cancellation is subject to the following cancellation charges:
| Period before departure within which written notice of cancellation is received | Cancellation charge shown as a % of total holiday cost |
| 56 days or more | Booking Deposit |
| 55-22 days | 60% |
| 21-15 days | 75% |
| 14 days or less | 100% |
Your liability
The property will be available for you from 1600 hours on the rental start date, and should be vacated by 1100 hours on the morning of departure, unless otherwise stated at time of booking or as arranged with us. Please let us know what time you expect to arrive. Our guests are expected to treat the cottage with respect; in keeping with many owners of self-catering properties we take a security deposit of £70.00, upon arrival, which will be returned upon departure to guests who leave the cottage clean and tidy. As of 2012, electricity will be charged at cost – we will read the meter with you upon arrival and at departure and pass on to you what the electricity company charges us. The cost of electriciy used will be deducted from the security deposit. The tariff includes bed linen and towels.
You are responsible for any breakages or damages to the cottage or its contents – please tell us about any incident immediately. We will not necessarily ask you to pay for breakages or damages – it will depend on the nature and extent – however, we do like to be informed so that we can ensure that the property can be made ready for the next guests. In keeping with most proprietors of self-catering accommodation, we may refuse to hand over to you, or to repossess, the property if we reasonably believe that damage is likely to be caused, has been caused, or is being caused, by you or any member of your party. This will be treated as a cancellation by you.
We try to deal with the maintenance and upkeep of the property during quiet periods when we do not have guests staying. However, the need may arise that we, or a representative of ours (for example, window cleaner, tradesperson, gardener), need access to the cottage during your visit here. In cases of emergency, or where a problem needs rectifying quickly and you cannot be contacted in time, we are entitled to enter the property at any time without giving prior notice.
Number of Occupants
The cottage sleeps two people, however, by arrangement, a third person can be accommodated on a sofa bed or camp bed in the small sitting room, in which case the tariff is increased by 50%.
Please get in touch with us if you are thinking about booking Blackthorn Cottage and would like to know more about it.
